Will Hunt Deer. Deer-stalking is one of the favourite pastimes of Sir Lionel Fletcher, C.8.E., a member of the board of directors of Dalgety and Company. Ltd., who arrived at Auckland in the Mariposa on Monday on a business visit to New Zealand. Sir Lionel hopes to do some shooting in the South Island during his two months' stay here —if there are any deer left after the intensive extermination
operations decided upon by the Government. While New Zealand's deer have been condemned as a menace to i the national flora, they are, in the . opinion of many people overseas, one . of the country’s prime attractions, ac- > cording to Sir Lionel. He mentioned that landholders in Scotland kept the ) number of deer on their properties under control by their own efforts, retaining the best of them for the sportsmen.
