Census in German} To Show Changes In Social Pattern
BEK LIN. A census is to be held in Germany in 19;., according to information published here recently. The last census tool; place in 1933, the year in which the Na tional Socialists camo to power. It is, therefore, thought essential th:;, some idea should he obtained of the many changes in social, economic and church life which have occurred dur- ! ing the last live years. The results are expected to shov; • clearly the differences which the Gov- | eminent *s racial policy has produced in I industry, and also serve as a basis for | a judgment on the progress made to- ' ward the realisation of some of the promises made in the Party programme, in the way of helping the small retailer and the handworker, and in opposition to the big stores. A law is also to be announced shortly, it is understood, according to which imprisonment, not exceeding one year, can be imposed upon any person whe supplies false information or refuses to answer any of the questions put by the authorities in connection with the census. Miss Browne, the prettiest girl in town, had a father who snubbed all young men who came to see her. One evening, Charles Newton, a bashful young man, called. Mr. Browne and young Newton’s father were close friends, but Mr. Browne did not recognise the visitor. “It looks as if if might rain,” ventured the young man. “ ’Taint going to rain,’’ was the gruff response. Tor about a quarter of an hour they sat in silence, Finally Browne ’s curiosity got the better of him. “Who did you say you arc?’’ he growled. ■ ‘ ‘ Charles Newton. ’ ’ ! “What! You’re not Tom Newton’s son?” “Yes.” “Well, well,’’ thawed Mr. Browne. “It may rain. It may rain.’’ At the end of the third round the heavyweight staggered to his corner in a dazed and battered condition. His manager approached the tighter I and said, sweetly, “Here, Butch, I’ve got a great idea! Next time ; e -’its you. ’it ’ini back!’’ I FORTUNE FOR INVENTIVE MINDS No matter how simple your idea, it l may mean a fortune for you! Patent 1 it without delay—before someone else I 1 does! Consult us now—fully and confidentially. Henry Hughes, Ltd., (Directors: W. E. Hughes and J. T. Hunter, Registered Patent Attorneys), 214217 D.I.C. Building, Wellington.—Advt.
