Museum Specimens.
A party from Katikati and Waihi, headed by Mr. S. Hovell, of Waihi, who have been at Mayor Island for some weeks dredging for specimens for the Auckland Museum, have returned to Katikati. Mr. Hovell reports that they dredged at all depths
up to 84 fathoms and obtained some excellent specimens, including several , pieces of growing coral. Fishing in , 100 fathoms, many sharks were hook- ■ ed, al lof the grey nurse variety. One of the party stated that sharks taken at that depth were all extremely large and on every occasion he dropped his line he hooked one.
