SATURDAY’S MEETING LEADING ATHLETES TO COMPETE Leading athletes from all parts of the North Island will be seen in action on Cook’s Gardens next Saturday night, when the Wanganui Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club is holding its second and most outstanding meeting this season. The star attraction in the running events will be one of the most versatile athletes in the Dominion and the second best miler, W. A. C. Pullar, Masterton. He will be opposed by the best Wanganui and Wellington runners over . the distance. Strong fields have entered for the other events, and close finishes and keen competition are assured. Among the crack cyclists competing will be M. Byrnes, Wanganui, and C. Gooder, T. Gamble, and H. Baldwin, of Auckland. Runner-up nine times in the New Zealand championships, Byrnes has held 25 Auckland championships and is the present holder f the mile and kilometre records. He is a former holder of the national mile
record and last year he won the Auckland 10 miles Empire Games trial. Holder of the New Zealand mile record, C. Gooder has been thrice run-ner-up in the national championship, and was formerly the Auckland kilometre champion. An Auckland scratch rider, T. Gamble has broken the mile record, reducing the time to 2min. 3-5 secs. H. Baldwin is the New Zealand junior half-mile champion and is close to a scratch rider in Auckland races.
