POST OFFICE PICNIC
(Own Correspondent*. MARTON, Feb. 6. The annual post office picnic was held yesterday at the lakes on the Santoft Estate with the kind permission of Mr. Peter Hammond. The weather being ideal, a full muster of P. and T. officials, with their wives, families and friends, spent a most enjoyable day and the sports events and swimming were keenly enjoyed. Results:— Married Ladies' 75 Yards.—Mrs. Lay 1. Mrs. Hogan 2. Men’s Open 100 Yards.—A. Ban 1. F. Calkin and J. Blackledger equal 2. Three-legged Race.—Mary Tolley and F. Calkin 1. Mr. and Mrs. Lay 2. At the Royal Academy examinations conducted last October by Mr. Felix Swinsted, Betty Lawson was successful in passing her advanced grade, and Dawn Zaponskowski transitional. These are pupils of Miss Evelyn Sherriff, Marton. Mr. Kenneth Gregory, Marlon, left on Saturday for the Christchurch Training College. He was accompanied by his mother, Mrs. G. B. Gregory, who is on a visit to the Southland district. Mr. Brian Gracie, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. Gracie, Cuba Street, Marton, left to-day for Scot’s College, Wellington. Miss Patricia McChesney, winner of the headmaster’s prize at the Marton District High School and the Alexander Scholarship, left to-day to enter the Wanganui Technical College. Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Hawk and Miss M. Hawk, who have been holidaying in Hawke’s Bay, have returned to Marton.
