BREACH EXPLAINED
RUSSIA AND HUNGARY "MERE VASSAL OF THE AXIS POWERS" MOSCOW, Feb. 3. Explaining Russia’s severance of diplomatic relations with Hungary, the oflicial Soviet news agency says: "As a result of the Munich agreement Hungary has lately been subjected to strong pressure by certain States, to whom she has too easily yielded, thereby losing her independence. Her decision to join the AntiComintern Pact is not justified by her national interests, which do not coincide with the aggressive aims ami pacts of the other signatories, especially those of Japan. ‘‘The decision consequently was thrust on Hungary from the outside, and this state of affairs no longer justifies direct Russo-Hungarian diplomatic relations, which can henceforth be maintained through representatives of the two Governments in the capital of some third State.” Soviet circles emphasise that a distinction has been made between the other signatories of the pact and Hungary because the others are still independent States, and “Hungary, as a mere vassal of the Rome-Berlin axis, does not deserve full diplomatic status."
