DEMOCRATIC SYSTEM

GREAT STRENGTH IN BRITAIN. [ British Official Wireless. ] RUGBY, Feb. 5. In a speech at a youth conference on democracy being held in London, Lord Baldwin emphasised the great strength of the democratic system in Great Britain. It was a slow, natural growth with deep roots so that in working the democratic system the British felt that they were working something which was part of themselves as well as helping in the evolution of history. For that reason he did not think democracy was in danger in Britain, although it was admittedly a system of government which made the greatest demands on the character of the governed, calling for great powers of self-discipline and sacrifice on the part of the people.
