TURNED DOWN
SWISS PACT WITH NAZIS. Received Feb. 4, 5.5 p.m. ZURICH, Feb. 3. The Foreign Minister (M. Molta) has issued a statement that, despite German pressure, Switzerland had turned down a German-Swiss agreement aimed at further muzzling Press criticism against Germany.
On October 3 it was reported that the Swiss Government had banned for three months publication of the Journal des Nations, for describing the Munich conference as “a butcher’s shop.” On November 15 the Federal Council was reported to have suppressed Swiss Nazi newspapers owing to a campaign against the Swiss police. Several Nazis were arrested, including their leader, Major Leon Hardt. The police were investigating Nazi activities, after which the Federal Council would be asked to determine whether they were treasonable.
