GAMES ON SATURDAY OLD BOYS AT TAIHAPE (Own Correspondent) MARTON, Feb. 5. Fine weather prevailed for the games on Saturday, the wicket at Marlon favouring Porewa, who batted first. Thanks to a tine stand by R. Parkinson and H. Marshall for 62 and iS7, respectively, Porewa was able to 'declare shortly after 4 o'clock with 174 runs on the board for a loss of four wickets. Marton tried seven bowlers, Parkes and Louden bearing the brunt of the attack. Batting for Marton, L. Smith (41) gave a bright, display, hitting eight 4's and a six. Louden (17) and R. Shield (27) were the only other batsmen to reach double figures. Time was called just as the ninth wicket fell, the game ending in a draw. At Taihape, playing on a concrete wicket, Old Boys were disposed of for 86, H. Low (28) and A. Duncan (16) being the only batsmen to make a stand. Whittle was practically unplayable, getting six wickets for 24. Taihape could not master the bowling of Duncan (four for 24) and Jolly (five for 30) and were all out just as they reached Old Boys’ score. Details:— Porewa.—A. Marshall, c Amon, b Louden, 0; R.
