STATEMENT BY MR. K. H. MELVIN ASSURANCE OF THE PRIME MINISTER ACCEPTED 1 Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Feb. 3. Anxiety that his comment in respect of the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage's published statement regarding allegations of consular interference with radio broadcasts should not oe misconstrued was expressed by Mr. K. H. Melvin, the foreign affairs commentator whose talks from Station IZB have been stopped. Mr. Melvin pointed out that whereas he had been reported as still believing those allegations his actual statement was an acceptance of Mr. Savage's statement. The words actually used, he said, were: "I have believed the representations by the German Consul did have some bearing on the ban. I have stated those reason.,. Now, however, Mr. Savage assures us that these deductions were incorrect. I accept his assurance and do so gladly." ...
