Mr. W. G. Rees-Jones, Wellington, has been appointed a Justice of Peace.
Mr. Oscar Allomes, accompanied by Mrs. Allomes. returned to Wanganui this week, after a visit to Australia.
Mr. R. Pollock, advance representative for Mr. Stanley McKay's Gaieties Vaudeville and Revue Company, has arrived in Wanganui to make arrangements for the company’s season here.
Mr. C. G. Smith, of Penrose, has been elected an associate member of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, London. He will leave shortly to gain further experience in England.
Mr. Victor Hugo, paymaster of the Auckland Metropolitan Fire Brigade and formerly of Wellington, and a prominent Auckland sports official, has entered the Auckland Hospital to undergo an operation.
Mr. Alan Browne. F.R.G.S.. who is well known in Wanganui, and who has been conducting a lecture tour in England was to speak at Winscombe, in Somerset, on February 1. Mr. Browne was a master at the Friends’ School for some time.
Dr. R. Stuart Jones, a well-known Sydney surgeon, arrived at Auckland by the Oronsay yesterday. While in New Zealand he intends to interview the Prime Minister, Mr. Savage, on aspects of the national health insurance scheme.
Mr. A. D. Robbie, who recently ter minated an association of 35 year: with the Government Printing Office was presented with a wallet by hi‘ fellow workers. Mr. Robbie was president of the Typographical Union during 1907-08.
Mr. C. J. Masters, the Wanganui Agricultural and Pastoral Association’s chief steward of the Jersey cattle classes, leaves shortly for a tour of Australia. At yesterday’s meeting of the executive he was wished a happy voyage by the chairman, Mr. W. Craig.

Mr. G. Lockwood, of the Police De partment headquarters staff, who re cently left to take up a position wit the Department of Agriculture in Gi: borne, was presented with a mement by the Commissioner of Police, Mr. I J. Cummings, on behalf of Mr. Lock wood's colleagues.
Congratulations on his recovery from his recent illness were extended to Mr. W. J. Rogers, Mayor of Wanganui, by the chairman, Mr. Hope Gibbons, at yesterday’s meeting of the Vyanganui Health Camp Trustees. The remarks were endorsed by Mr. E. F. Hemingway, Mayor of Patea.
Dr. R. C. Gillie, former president of the National Council of the Evangelical Free Churches and a former Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of England, accompanied by Mrs. Gillie, has left Wellington for Auckland. Dr. Gillie will occupy the pulpit at St. David’s Church for about eight months during the absence abroad of the Rev. W. Bower Black.
Group-Captain J. B. Graham, of the Royal Air Force, England, who has been visiting Australia on leave after an absence of 26 years, was a
passenger by the Wanganella from Sydney on Wednesday. He will spend a month trout fishing at Taupo before returning to England, by way ol the United States. Group-Captain Graham is accompanied by his wife.
Mr. W. Craig, president of the Wanganui Agricultural and Pastoral Association for the past three years, has agreed to the unanimous request of the executive to accept nomination for office for another term. Mr. Craig has devoted a considerable amount of his time to the association and tribute to his good work was paid by members at yesterday’s meeting when it was stated that a great measure of the splendid progress of the association was due to the president.
Dr. D. W. McElwain, who has accepted a position as lecturer in psychology at Perth University, left Wanganui last night for Wellington, where he will join the Maunganui for Melbourne. Dr. McElwain is an old boy of the Wanganui Technical College. Following a year’s study at Victoria University College, he went to England and studied at’ London University. He was accompanied to Wellington by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. R. McElwain. t
