General Situation.—Pressure is now falling in the south under the influence of a depression advancing across the Tasman Sea. Over southern-eastern Australia there has been a considerable rise with the approach of an anti-cyclone from the west. Forecast.—Winds: North-east to northerly light to moderate but freshening especially about and south of Cook Strait. A change to southerlies advancing northward over the South Island during to-mor-row. Seas (New Zealand waters): Slight to moderate but rising about Cook Strait and in the far south. Eastern Tasman Sea: Freshening northerly winds but a change to stronger southerlies advancing over the central and southern portions to-morrow. Seas, slight to moderate, but rising. Weather: Fair to fine at first and mild to warm rain developing shortly, however, in the western and southern portions of the South Island and gradually becoming more widespread during the weekend. Time of sunset to-day, 7.41 p.m. Time of sunrise to-morrow. 5.30 a.m. Phases of the Moon for February:—Full Moon, February 4; Last Quarter, February 10; New Moon, February 19; First Quarter, Febru ary 26.
