MATCH WITH SIR JULIEN CAHN’S TEAM PRACTICE EVERY EVENING A special practice will be held os Cook's Gardens at 4.30 every evenin; next week for the 15 players selectei by the sole-selector to the Wanganu Cricket Association, Mr. E. The Wanganui Asociation has pur chased a net and all the necessary equipment for representative matci practice. EGMONT RACING CLUB NEXT WEEK’S MEETING WIN-AND-PLACE BETTING The Egmont Racing Club's summei meeting will be held on Thursday ant Saturday next at Hawera, and acceptances for the first day of the meeting will close next Monday night The committee has decided on t change in the betting system, adopting the win-and-place method insteac of the single-pool, which has operatec for the past two seasons. Keen interest will be displayed ir next week’s meeting, as it forms the first important fixture in the autumr circuit, being followed by Woodville Wanganui, Rangitikei and Taranak meetings. In the Egmont Cup fielc there are engaged winners of the Melbourne Cup (Wotan). Wanganu Cup (Brazen King), Stratford Cu[ (Lickem). Feilding Cup (Wotan) Marton Cup (Dungarvan), and Taranaki Cup (Aussie Ra). Then there are those useful three-year-olds Amigo and Homily, besides some very likely lightweights. It should be an interesting race. Good fields are engaged throughout the first day. and there should be a very successful meeting ahead of the
WANGANUI JOCKEY CLUB NOMINATIONS DUE MONDAY Nominations for all events at the Wanganui Jockey Club’s autumn meeting, to be held on Thursday and Saturday, February 23 and 25, are due to close at 8 p.m. on Mondaynext. The feature event will be the Wanganui Cup, which carries a stake of £650, including a cup valued at £5O, presented by Mr. T. Currie. The race will be ove? a distance of one mile four and a-quarter furlongs. A generous response may be expected from owners and trainers.
