In the early hours of Thursday fi re broke out in the building which was being constructed in Aitken Street to house the administration staff under the Social Security Act, and in an hour or two the whole block was destroyed, with several flats and dwellings on the opposite side of the street. Several of the pictures on this page were taken when the fire was at its height.
