VERDICT OF SUICIDE
| INQUEST AT HASTINGS. FALL UNDER TRAIN. L Per Press Association.] HASTINGS, Feb. 1. A verdict, of suicide while of unsound mind was the finding of the coroner, Mr. G. Ebbett, at the inquest at Hastings to-day into the death of ’ Hugh Thomas McHugh, who was ■ killed on the Hastings railway station. : on January 27, when run over by a ' train. ■ In the evidence, the superintendent : of Pukeora sanitorium, Dr. O'Dea said 1 that McHugh was a patient of the > sanitorium for six months and he knew the case was hopeless. He left ■ the sanitarium without leave ap- ■ patently in a depressed condition. A : railway porter next in evidence, ; stated that about noon on the day in 1 question he saw McHugh climb from a carriage and push himself under the ’ wheels of a moving train. The action ‘ appeared deliberate and the carriage 1 had passed over him inflicting fatal injuries. ■ “It is obvious that the unfortunate man became mentally unbalanced," said the coroner, giving his verdict.
