The Fine showing made by the primary schools bugle bands last Friday evening at Cook’s Gardens has been most favourably commented upon by a large number of people. With a view to encouraging these bands to still further efforts, the officers and members of the Garrison Band, at their rehearsal last evening, decided to donate a challenge cup to be competed for by the schools bugle bands during the coming year. During the hearing of a case for separation, maintenance and guardianship orders, heard before Mr J. S. Barton, S.M., at the Wanganui Magistrate’s Court yesterday afternoon, the question of the access of prohibited persons to liquor cropped up. Afr T. Slipper, in cross-examining a witness, said: “Surely you do not infer that while prohibited, defendant was able to obtain liquor?” “You have more faith in some of tho publicans of Wanganui than I have, Mr Slipper,” said Air Barton, “ancl apart from licensees the country possesses a certain class of man who seems to take a delight in supplying liquor to poor unfortunates who are broken by the liquor habit. ’ ’
