FOR MINES DEPARTMENT PUMPT* T G CONTINUES AT DOBSOU (Per Press Association) GREYMOUTH, Dec. 12. The pumping of water into the Dobson mine is still in progress. The Minister of Mines (the Hon. G. J. Anderson) arrived on Saturday, and the Under-Secretary (Mr A. H. Kimbell) was also present when deputations met the Minister, who said an inquiry on the disaster would be held as soon as possible. Ho said it seemed that no matter what precautions were taken, especially in gassy mines, calamities occurred, and alluded to the disaster of 10 years ago, where the mortality was colossal despite the precautions taken, which were regarded as perfect. Tho Department could only take the advice of its experts. His policy had been ‘ ‘safety first.”
