SAFER FLYING

ALL PRECAUTIONS TAKEN AIK MINISTRY’S REPLY TO CRITICISM ACCIDENT RATE LESS EACH YEAR Received Dec. 11, 5.5 p.m. LONDON, Dec. 10. Sir Samuel Hoare (Secretary of Stato for tho Air Ministry), speaking at Birmingham, said that they had not found a panacea for air crashes, but every precaution had been taken. Training, inspection, and supervision were higher in England than anywhere else in die world. Despite the number of deplorable accidents, this year was tho second best in tho history of the service when tho amount of flying was considered. Tho situation was steadily improving every year. Mrs Elliott Lynn, in urging women to take up flying, said in the last three months there had been 270.000 injured tn street accidents in England, while/ not a single person had been injured in an aeroplane carrying out ordinary duties in the year. She wondered why people had the courage to drive a car, when scores of dangers were lurking at every corner. It was easier to fly than to ride a bicycle.
