LAWBREAKERS DEPORTED SELLING LIQUOR TO NATIVES. SURPRISE AT SOUTH AFRICA’S ACTION. CAPETOWN, Doc. 10. Much surprise has been caused by the whole-sale deportation of offenders against the liquor law. To-day sixteen men and one woman, all Britishe'rs, from Johannesburg and Pretoria, were deported by the steamer Grantully Castle. The men, who are practically all exsoldiers, complain bittetly of the treatment, several having had only a conviction recorded. They were given no fa cilities to communicate with friends. They protested against being seht back in the middle of the English winter without money, friends or prospects. Most of them were convicted of selling liquor to natives.
