BEAM TESTS

THE AUSTRALIAN STATION FADING EXPERIENCED AT NIGHT OPENING OF SERVICE MAY BE DELAYED. LONDON, Dec. 9. A strange phenomenon occurred in the course of„the Australian beam tests when it was noticed that daytime transmission was stronger and clearer than night, when fading was experienced. Already a speed of 100 words a minute has been achieved during favourable periods. It is understood that the aerials here and in Australia are being altered in an endeavour to overcome fading, which may delay opening the service until after the New Year.
