Jackson, daughter of Dr. lad Mrs Jackson. Korbymoorside. Yorkshire, England, arrived in Wanganui on Wednesday with Mr and Mrs Hope ibbons. who went to meet her at Wellington. Her marriage to Mr G. M. t’oward will take place to-day. Mrs M. Hunter left for Wellington on Monday. Miss Vivienne Ralph, of Christchurch, one of the soloists at the Choral Society’s concert, has received information that she has passed the practical examination of the L.A.B. Mr and Mrs Shannon, of Feilding, have been visiting Wanganui. Mr and Mrs D. H. Layton Dyer have Keen visiting Wanganui. Mrs A. De Castro. M.8.E.. whose splendid war work in Egypt is so well known, and who is now organiser for the English Speaking Union, is the guest of her sister. Mrs C. H. Ralph, of ('arlton Avenue. Mrs de Castro has recentlv been delivering lectures on behalf of the Union to Rotarians and others in the Hawke’s Bay district, and has been successful in establishing Branches at Napier and Hastings. The Technical College tennis players are to bo congratulated on their successes at the children’s tournament held last Saturday, nearly all the winners in both singles and doubles belonging to that College. Mr Gibson, St. John’s Hill, has been \ liting Hawera for a few days. Mr and Mrs Orton left Wanganui on Wednesday for Wellington, where they 3 et Mr and Mrs H. D. Bates and Mr and Mrs C. Ross who are returning from abroad. Tht party is expected in Wanganui to-day. Miss Stanford (Nrw Plymouth . who has been the guest of Mrs Hugh Wilson, left for her home at the end of the week. Mr and Mrs Geoffrey Goodwin, of Wellington, are visiting Wanganui. Miss L. Lilburn is staying with Miss Kathleen Kelly, Thompson Ecad. Napier. Miss Bssie Bayly of New Plymouth has returned to her home after a visit to Wanganui. Mrs (Capt.) Brake and her little daughter. Betty, left on Thursday on a short visit to Wellington. Mr and Mrs Jack Crawford, of Dunedin, spent a short time in Wan ganni on Tuesday when on their way to Auckland. Miss Mitchell returned late last week to Wanganui from Rotorua. Miss Nola Lux ford, who was born and educated in Wanganui and is now a film star of Hollywood. Los Angeles, is playing the feminine lead in a new picture being produced there, “King of the Herd.'’ Mrs Mason and family, of Marton,., are staying at Castlccliff. Miss I. Hutton has returned after a few days spent in Wellington. Mrs S. Guy, of Wellington, who has been the guest of her sister, Mrs P. Lewis, returned to her home on Wednesday. The Misses Cowper (2) and Mrs Teel arrived on Thursday from England, where they have been living for some years past. Mrs Campbell, of Wellington, and her family arrived in Wanganui on Tuesday and are the guests of Mrs Murchie. The feminine soloists at the Choral Society’s concert on Wednesday evening wore very pretty frocks, Miss Ralph appearing in pale pink satin with a large scarlet rose on the shoulder, and Miss Whalley, pale pink georgette beaded in silver and with a tulle rosette on the shoulder. Signor Cesaroni’s accompanist. Miss E. Kirk, looked extremelv charming in a quaint frock of Early Victorian mode, black satin being used to make a frock with fitting, longwaisted bodice with deep bateau neck, and a verv full skirt reaching to the ankles. Mrs F. T. Thomas went to Auckland on Monday to meet Mr and Mrs A. H. Cunningham, and the Misses Dorothy and Mary Cunningham, who returned from abroad on Wednesday. Mrs Joseph-Watkins arrived in Auckland on Tuesday by the “Marama.” Sister Scan’ron. w’ho has been the guest of Mrs Hague Smith, returned to Ohau on Monday. Mrs David Jones, of Lower Hutt, is visiting Wanganui. Mrs E. Caro and Miss Ruth Caro, of Napier, have been visiting Wanganui. Miss Caro's marriage to Mr B. Hipdmarsh, of Paparangi, takes place shortly. A number of people went through to Huntly on Wednesday to be present at the last annual cricket match to be played between Huntly and Hurworth Schools. Amongst those present were: Rev. and Mrs Austin, Mr and Mrs H. Lewis, Mr and Mrs Sturge, Mr and Mrs W. Stewart, Mesdames R. Grace, A. Wilson, Hutton. Silk, Taiboys, (Dr.) Crawford, Latham. Mrs (Dr.) Christie and her sister, Miss’ Marshall, are expected to arrive in Wellington on Tuesday by the * ‘ Ulimaroa. ’ ’ Dr. and Mrs Orbell, of Christchurc'h, motored from New Plymouth on Wednesday and were the guests of Mrs T. E. Jefeoate, leaving on Thursday for Wellington. Miss Alex. Strachan arrived in Auckland on Tuesday by the “Marama” •from Sydney. She is the guest of Mrs Russell, Auckland. Mrs S. Bain, of Auckland, is visiting her mother, Mrs F. Flavel. Mrs Robertson, Auckland, is visiting her daughter, Mrs M. McArtney, Wanganui East. Miss E. Mason gave a tennis party on Thursday. Mrs Maurice Campbell was hostess on Tuesday at a Mali Jong party. Mrs Hugh Wilson gave a Mali Jong party on Saturday. Mrs J. Anderson was hostess at a croquet afternoon given on. Tuesday. Mr and Mrs Sturge gave a farewell picnic on Friday of last week for the boys of Hurworth School. WEDDINGS. REDPATH—SHONROCK. A very pretty wedding took place on Wednesday morning November 17. at the home of the bride’s parents, when the marriage place of A’an da Edith, youngest daughter of "Mr and Mrs G. F. Shonroek. Ohakea, to Jjrtigh Blaikie. second son of Mr nnd "Nirs J. Redpath, of Auckland and late of Feilding. The ceremony was conducted by the Rev. H. H. Te Punga. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a
Madame Menere writes that the fashionable fur coat for next season is to be long and loose fitting. London women are beginning to realise, that a long fur coat is the best suited to motoring and general use. When last heard of. Madame and Mr Menere were in Paris. They return to New Zealand early next year.
very dainty French model frock of paio pink crepe de chene, headed with silver. A pale pink embroidered tulle veil hung from from a coronet of orange blossoms and she carried a beautiful bouquet of roses, Himilayan rhododendrons and asparagus fern. The attendants were Afiss Gladys Klatt, neice of the bride, and Miss Tess Redpatli, sister of the bridegroom. The former wore a beaded frock of cyclamen voile and the latter a blue embossed georgette frock. Each carried posies of roses and pink passion flower and wore gold necklets, the gift of the bridegroom. The bridegroom was attended by Mi Len. Robertson as best man and Mr Maurice Frecklington as groomsman. After the ceremony Mrs Redpath was presented with a gold horse shoe tied with pink ribbon, by little Audrey Capstiek. A reception was held in the Ohakea Hall, which had been beautifully decorated for the occasion by friends of the bride, a special feature being a huge wedding bell suspended above the bridal party. A very handsome threedecker pink iced cake, which harmonised with the general colour scheme, was made by, and was the gift of Mrs R. Klatt, sister-in-law of the bride. Mrs Redpath’s travelling frock was a wine-coloured jumper suit of erepe de chene and fawn hat. MELROSE—ROGERS. The Rev. Fieldon Taylor officiated at the wedding of Cora May, second daughter of Mr and Mrs Henry Rogers, of Upper Kaihapau, Mangaweka, and Alfred Ernest, sen of Mrs Melrose and the late Mr David Melrose, of Wellington, at St. Peter’s Church, Wellington. The bride wore n frock of peach crepe de chine nn,(l crinoline hat to match. The bridesmaid. Miss Hazel Melrose, wore a frock of silk repp, and carried a bouquet of roses and pansies. Mr W. Lock was best man. At the subsequent reception the guests were received by the bridegroom’s sister, who wore a frock of floral georgette and picture hat. Mr and Mrs Melrose left for a trip in the North Island, the bride wearing a saxe blue frock and hat to match.
