DEPARTMENT’S POLICY A DUTY TO THE PEOPLE. [Par Pretit Association} AUCKLAND, Dee. 10. In reply to criticism levelled against the Railway Department for running Sunday trains, Mr A. W. Wei Isted, commercial agent, said yesterday that the staff does not work under com pul sion, and representations from conscientious objectors would receive fav ourablo consideration. While the Department did not on courage Sunday trains as a general principle, it considered that as the institution was owned by the people ami had been created essentially to provide* transport facilities, it. is obliged to give effect to the requests which have spread and now represent tho wishes of a large number of people.
