CYANIDE POISONING
SUICIDE AT AUCKLAND MAN’S DEATH IN DOMAIN. (Per Pres* Association.) AUCKLAND, Dec. 10. An inquest concerning the death of William Henry Ashton, aged 32, who was found dead in the Domain on Wednesday, was held to-day. Dr. E. N. Drier said he found a small bottle smelling strongly of hydro-cyanic acid nesi.de the body. Dr. D. N. W. Murray, who made a post-mortem examination, said ho was of opinion that death was due to shock, following the taking of cyanide poison. David Nelson McGregor, who boarded with deceased, said that when ho (witness) left for work at eight o’clock, deceased appeared quite normal. Later witness received a telephone message stating that something had happened, and he found a note on his bed from deceased, saying he was about to commit suicide. Deceased served in the Great War and was in receipt of a pension. He had a shrapnel wound in tho lung and this worried him considerably. The coroner returned a verdict of suicide by poisoning.
