NIGHT MOTORING
LIGHTHOUSE PROPOSAL NOT FAVOURED IN AUCKLAND. (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Dec. 9. Flashing lighthouses at intervals of every two miles to guide motorists on country roads at night have been suggested by the North Island Motor Union, but the Auckland Automobile Association opposes the erection of lighthouses with advertising propensities, the opinion being expressed at last night’s meeting that the object was to make motorists read advertisements at danger points when the drivers’ attention should not be distracted from the road. The chairman said they had their own signs throughout the province, and by the use of spotlights they could be seen quite plainly by night.
