AGRICULTURAL COLLEGE PROPOSALS MAINTAINING COUNTRY’S PROSPERITY. “It was bluff—simply bluff,” said Mr W. B. Mathieson, vice-president of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union, speaking last night with reference to the South Island’s effort to hold up the North Island Agricultural College proposals. z The establishment of another agricultural college he considered the best possible investment the country could make. He was sorry that farmers of experience and standing had criticised the proposals. He could not understand their attitude. It was necessary if they were to maintain prosperity, to keep in touch with the greatest advances in theory as well as in practice. A voice: Wo can’t afford it. Mr Matheson: Can’t afford it! Why tho investment will pay you one hundred times over. (Applause).
