WANGANUI AMATEUR CLUB LAST EVENING’S MEETING.™ - There was an excellent attendance ; of the public at' the Wanganui Amateur I Athletic and Cycling Club’s meeting last evening. Races were good, sport was keen, and the public were treated with some exciting finishes. Folowing are the rcsuts: — 100 yards handicap.—First heat: C. Maitland (3 yards) 1, E. Ford (7A) 2, W. Bradley (5) 3. Also: W. PrestonThomas (sj). N. Ball (6), J. Crichton (6A). A very close finish. Time: 10 2-ssec. Second heat: H. Edmondson (6$ yards) J, J. Rawson (8) 2, A. Telfar (4) 3. Also: W. Rusden (5), A. B. Currie (10), D. Veitch (11). Won by a yard. Time: JO 3-ssec. Third heat: H. E. B. Newton (5 yards) 1> A. H. Johnston (11) 2, L. Wilson (10) 3. Also: A. E. Brown (5), A. Heibner (s|), G. Broad (6). Won by half a yard. Time: 10 l-ssec. Final: H. E. B. Newton (5 yards) J, E. Ford (7j) 2, C. Maitland (3) 3. Also: W. Bradley (5), H. E. Edmondson (6i), J. Pawson (8), H. H. Johnston (11). Won by half a yard. Time: 10 l-sscc. One mile handicap.—B. Clark (160 yards) 1, L. McAneny (170) 2, B. Soloman (130) 3. Also: J. Pawson (60), A. B. Currie (130), O. Maitland (170), G. Moore (170), D. Veitch (170), H. Dustin (180), M. Ross (180). Time: 4min. 2Ssec. This was a good race. Clark was leading for the first lap, but Veitch was in front the second time, with Moore and McAneny close up, and Pawson 50 yards behind. Clark took the lead the last time round and, in a good finish lasted long enough to win from McAneny by 5 yards. Solomon, who ran a great race, was four yards away third. Two miles cycle handicap.—A. Cave (70 yards) 1, A. Carveil (260) 2, L. Wakeloy (scr.) 3. Also: I. Ross (scr.), K. Anderson (scr.) L. Moorhouse (30 yards), D. Adamson (130), M. Wall (260), R. Madden (240). Time: 4min. 42sec. The scratch men did not work too well together in this race and could not quite make up the handicap. Carveil and Wall were in front in the third lap. with Adamson and Cave handy. Carveil was still in front in the fourth and in the fifth, and the scratch men were 100 yards behind. Cave made a great effort, in the last two laps and beat Carveil in the run home by six yards. For third place Wakeloy and Anderson had an exciting finish, the former getting the verdict by a rim. Half mile boys’ cycle race.—Cronin I, Irvine 2, Sheehy 3. Time: Imin. 14
