UNENTERPRISING QUEENSLANDERS. DREARY DAY’S PLAY. Received Dec. 8. 16.10 p.m. SYDN’EY, Dec. 8. Tn the Sheffield Shield match against New South Wales, whose first innings total was 287. Queensland to-day continued their innings, taking the score from 48 for two wickets to 323 for six wickets. L. Oxenham scored 60. Thompson 43, O’Connor 103 and Rowe (not out) 35. The match was Continued in ideal weather on a good wicket, but the batting of the visitors was very dreary. They were playing dogged cricket, defying the attack and scoring mainly by singles. The batsmen, refusing to take risks, scored only off loose ones. Oxenham took over three hours to complete his score. When Thompson appeared the scoring rate livened up, but after he was dismissed it dropped back, most balls being blocked. All changes in bowling failed to tempt the visitors to take a chance. VICTORIA' BEATEN BY SOUTH AUSTRALIA. GREAT STRUGGLE FOR VICTORY. Received Dec. 8, 10.10 p.m. ADELAIDE, Dec. 8. [ The match between South Australia and Victoria was finished to-day, South Australia winning by two wickets and three runs. Victoria made 315 and 430, South Australia scoring 481 in the first innings and 267 for eight wickets in the second. Rymil contributed 38, AL Richardson 92 and Grimmett (not out) 33. Ryson took four wickets for 74. V. Richardson’s was a splendid innings, paving the way to victory. The weather was fine and the wicket still good. The South Australians fought hard to win. In the first few overs they batted carefully. Then V. Richardson and Rymil commenced to open out. but a little later Rymil was caught. With only the tail left Richardson tightened his defence, as only 44 runs were required, and the scoring slowed down. After Richardson went out the scoring was still slower, the last three winning runs talcing ten minutes.
