Signor Lucien Cesaroni, of Wellington, is a guest at the Rutland Hotel.

At a recent meeting of the Victoria Swimming Club Mr A. Hickford was unanimously elected vice-president.

A recent caller at the New Zealand High Commissioner’s Office in London was Mr P. A. Pederson, of Wanganui.

Colonel G. Mitchell, of Wellington, is a visitor to Wanganui, and is staying at Foster’s Hotel.

The Hon. O. J. Hawken. Minister of Agriculture, arrived in Wanganui yesterday from Wellington. Ho is at Foster’s Hotel.

Mr A. J. Joblin, Mayor of Taihape, was a visitor to Wanganui yesterday for the Wanganui Education Board meeting. He was a guest at Foster’s Hotel.

Messrs J. K. Hornblow (Foxton), H. Mclntyre (Feilding) and W. S. Woodroofe (Palmerton North) were in AVanganui for the meeting of the Education Board last night.

Mr R. E. Hayes, 1.5.0., Secretary to the Treasury, leaves Auckland by the liner Tainui on December 15, on an official visit to London, and will be absent from the Dominion for about five months.

Mr W. Sharpe, the well-known oarsman and rowing enthusiast, will accompany the AVanganui Collegiate School crew, which he has coached successfully for some years, to Christchurch on Saturday.

Mr R. Marumtiru, who has not been well of late, is agtain confined to his bed, and seriously ill. It is probable that he will proceed to the Wellington Hospital for treatment at the end of the week.

Mr and Mrs A. H. Cunningham, of Wanganui, and their daughters, Miss Dorothy and Miss Mary Cunningham, returned to Auckland on AVednesday, after an extended trip abroad. They will return to Wanganui in a few weeks after motoring to Rotorua and Taupo.

Messrs W. G. Holder, F. Duckworth (New Plymouth), Messrs A. Hoskin, A. Adams, M. S. Myers, L. E. Johnson (Wellington), Mr and Mrs W. J. Pugh, Mr E. A. Brooker (Auckland), and Mr F. Kendall (Palmerston North) are registered at Foster’s Hotel.

Arrivals at the Rutland Hotel include Messi's A. Kennedy, H. C. Hill, T. Parnell (Palmerston North), Mr E. J. Denys (Hawera), Messrs L. W. Christmas, H. Ballin (Christchurch), Miss E. Kirk, Messrs H. P. Yarrell and K. Wilberfoss (Wellington).

Miss P. Cheyne’s services under the Wanganui Education Board* for the past 42 years were the subject of a glowing tribute by Mr W. Adams, at the Board’s meeting last night. Miss Cheyne is retiring from the post of headmistress of the Whenuakura School, and the Board decided to send a letter thanking her for her excellent work, and wishing her good fortune and happiness in the future.

The death is announced from Khandallah, AVellington. of Mrs C. S. Gallic (nee Celia Grace Chapman). Mrs Gallic was brought up and received her education in AVanganui, and was associated for a considerable time with the nursing profession in this city. Through her quiet and unassuming nature she made many friends in and around Wanganui, and the deepest sympathy will bo extended to her relatives.

The staff of the Wangtanui Fresh Food Company, Ltd., recently met to bid farewell to the late manager, Mr R. H. Thomson, who is about to depart for Auckland. Feeling reference was made by Mr E. M. Grant to the regard in which Mr Thomson whs held by the staff, and all who had dealings with him and also to his great business ability. He was presented with a barometer and h gold fountain pen. Mr Thomson suitably responded, and as one of the promoters of the company over 20 years ago he said he sincerely regretted leaving, but wished the company and staff every success in the future.
