NINE MILES
RAETIHI TO OHAKUNE SECONDARY SCHOOL PUPILS “I think the Department is quite justified in refusing to establish a secondary school at Raotihi, when it is only a distance of nine miles to Ohakune,’’ said Mr. J. K. Hornblow, at the Education Board’s meeting last night, when the Raotihi School Committee renewed its (application for the establishment of a secondary school in their town. Mr A. J. Joblin supported the Raetihi application, on the grounds that the parents were entitled to the chance to give the children secondary education, but Mr E. W. Hemingway opposed it. The Senior Inspector, Mr Lambourne, stated that transport .facilities between Raetihi and Ohakune. had been improved, so that a secondary establishment at Raetihi was necessary. Mr Joblin asked if it was not la fact that the Department had considered closing the Ohakune School, owing *o a fall in attendance. The chairman (Mr W. A. Collins) said the attendance was picking up again. A motion that the Raetihi children attend the Ohakune School was carried.
