WAVERLEY-WAITOTARA R.C. MEETING.

Despite the threatening weather, there was a large attendance of the publio at tliis gathering, which is always a popular one with Wanganui sportsmen. The fields were laa-ge, and. the racing most interesting all through. Speculation was very brisk, the sum of £5266 being maahined during the day, an increase of £340 on the amount machined last year. In the Cup, Immolation made all the running to the straight, where Starina <and Aureole cut her down, the former winning easily. Tho highly bred Glenulieri (Lochiel—Consistence) won both the Morton Memorial and Momohaki Stakes with the gi"eat<?st ease, while Captain Shannon also won a double—the Wilson Stakes and Jackson Stakes. The secretary, Mr. A. E. Mathieson and his staff controlled the meeting with precision and ability. Mr. C. Chavannes made some good despatches from the barriers, and the judge, Mr. R. H. Aid worth, gave satisfaction with his decisions. The popular caterer, Mr. W\. S. . Dustin, was in charge of the luncheon booth, and, as usual, was kept very busy, the menu being firstclassJ. Results:— Handicap Hurdles.—Mr. H. France's Weary Bill, by Australian, 10.0 (Murtagh), 1; Cassiopea, 10.6 (Boyd), 2; Iseult, 9.9, 3. Also started: Flanagan 10.5, Land o' Cakes 9.7, Hokio 9.6, Throstle 9.6, Westward 9.0, Ellady 9.0, <and Tambowie 9.0. Westward led past the stand from Weary Bill and Cassiopea. Weary 'Bill assumed the lead going round the back, and stalling off Cassiopea at the turn, won easily. Westward was fourth, and Flanagan, Hokio, Land o' Cakes, Throstle, and Ellady in order. Time, 2 mins. 53 sees. Dividends, £2 17s. and £2. Flying Handicap.—Mr. FS. Cooper's b.m. Lualla, by Hotchkiss—St. Mary, 8.0 (McNamara), 1; Clipper, 7.11. (Graham)., 2; Present, 8.10 (Morris), 3. i Also started. Compass, 7.13 (Murtagh); Lady Launcelot, 7.7 (Williams), and Lord Clive, 7.7 (Fryer). Clipper shot out into the lead, and with Present and Compass in close attendance, led to the turn. Halfway down the straight, Lualla cut the chestnut down, and won easily by a length. Compass was fourth. Time, 1 mm. 18 sees. Dividends, £2 18s. and £2 3s. Morton Memorial Stakes, seven furlongs.—Messrs. Alexander and Gray's b.c. Glenullen, by Lochiel—Consistence (Jackson) 1; Gleam (C. Scott), 2; Maharanui, 3. Also started: Star Rose, Snip, Tautoro, Clifton, Climax, Parehe, Ebb Tide, and Ironic. Glenullen at once went to the front and led from start to finish. Gleam beat Maharanui by a noso for second place. Time, 1 mm. 32 2-5 sees. Dividends, £2 9s. and £2 16S. 6d. Waverley-Waitotara Cup, 1\ miles.— Mr. J. Grant's b.c. Starina, by Daystar—Auterina, 8.13 (Matthews), 1; Aureole, 9.0 (Williams), 2; Immolation, 8.2 (McNanrara), 3. Also started : Ontario 8.2 (Ranger), Si?. Cyress 7.7 (Henry), and Levent 7.7 (Morris). St. Cyress and Immolation led past the stand, the latter showing the way past the turn and into tho straight. Here Starina put in his claim, and drawing .away in good style, won by a length from Aureole. Time, 2 mins. 16 l-o sees. Dividends, £3 Bs. and £1 3s. Prince of Wales Handicap, seven furlongs.—Mr. W. Wood's br.g. Clairmont, by St. Cyr—Spray, 8.1 (Barlow), 1; Star Rose, 7.9 (Matthews), 2; Showman, 7.10 (Scott), 3. Also started: Present 9.0, Recreation 8.11, Lualla 9.0, Tautoru 7.9, and Ebb Tide 7.9. Recreation Tautara, Showman, and Clairmont were the leading division to the turn, where Recreation and Tautoru were done with. Clairmont worked into the lead half way down the running, and squeezed home between Star Rose and Showman by a nose, after a beautiful finish. Time, 1 mm. 32 sees. Dividends, £3 9s. and £3 2s. 6d. Wilson Stakes, four furlongs.—Mr. J. Laughlin's b.g. Captain Shannon, by Captain Webb—Krina (O'Brien), 1; Tambourina (Cochrane), 2; Clementine (Bird), 3. Also started: Vasalate, Nukutahr, Chase Mab, Waiweepa, Fedoration, Sedgemoor, Swop, Bonnie, Reticent, Balgownie, Bagatelle, Jean, Cyrene, .Throstle, Truce, and Pretty Jai>e. Captain Shannon Avas first away and led to the post, winning by two lengths. Time, 49 3-5 sees. Dividends, £4 16s. and £10 ,18s. Momohaki Stakes, 1\ miles.—Messrs. Alexander and Gray's br.c. Glenullen, by Lodhiel—Consistence, 8.6 (Jackson), 1; Starina, 9.9 (Matthews), 2; Immolation, 8.2 (McNamara), 3. Also started : Aureole 9.0. Ontario 8.2^ Levent 7.7, Snip 7.6, and Lord Clive 7.5. Aureole and Levent led for two furlongs, when Glenullen went to the front. Starina challenged in the straight, but
Glenullen won easily by two lengths, Immolation the same distance further back. Time, 2 mins. 2 1-5 sees. Dividends. £2 Is. 6d. and £1 Is. Jackson Stakes, five furlongs.—Mr.. J. Laughlin's b.g. Captain Shannon, by Captain Webb—Krina (O'Brien), 1; Tambourina (Cochrane), 2; Sporting Queen (Jackson), 3. Also started: Steel Crown, Park Rose, Swop, Bagatelle, Jean, Mereshot, Truce, and Lingerer. Tambourina burst through the tapes with a five lengths lead, and headed the field into the sti-aight, where Captain Shannon wore her down and won by half a length. Time, 1 mm. 4 4-5 sees. Dividends, £2 4s. 6d. and £3 3s.
