NOCTUIFORM WINS THE CUP

The weather was extremely unfavourable for the third day of the Canterbury Jockey Club's meeting: The afternoon turned out cold and dull, and after tho second race' a thunderstorm passed over RiCcartori, bringing a downpour of hail and rain. The Canterbury Cup, Jockey Club Handicap, and Avon Welter were run in very heavy rain. The totalisator • investments amounted to £11,661. Results: Suburban Hurdles, once round and a distance;— Miss King 1, Waiwera 2, Scottish Minstrel 3. Also ■■started: Catherine Gordon, Leeside. Rongoa, Wi Waka, and Error. Won by a length with something to spare. Time, 3 mins. •1 4-5 sees. Dividends, £2 15s. and lcs. 6d. , Spring Nursery Handicap, 4 furlongs. -—Kirriemuir 1, Lady Lanlon 2, Stars and Stripes 3. Also started, Huascar Snowstell (bracketed with Kirvi-Miiuir), Lapland,. Golden : Gate, Knastikoif, Aimeo Soult,* Sonia. and Cvi uination Kirriemuir was quickest away, and won comfortably by two lengths. Time, SO sees. Dividends, £1 17s. auu £2 os 6d. . Canterbury Cup, two miles and a Quarter.—Noctuifonn 1, Mahutonga 2. The only starters. The raoa was run in a blinding rainstorm. Nocbuiform drew away rounding the top turn, and won as he liked by a dozen lengths. Time, 4 mins. 2 3-5 sees. Dividend, -£1 2s. ■ ■ . Jockey Club Handicap, one mile.— Signalman 1, 'Vladimir 2, Chryseis 3. Also started: Achilles, Convoy, Crichton, Sir Tristram and Apollodoris. Chryseis and Crichton wei-e first to show out. Vladimir was slow to move. At the top of the straight Signalman came through on the-in'side, and, stalling off a strong challenge by Vladimir, won by a nock, Chryseis a similar distance behind Vladimir, Apollodoris fourth. Time, 1 rain. 45 sees. Dividends, £3 9s. and £1. Avon Welter, seven furlongs.—Makarofli 1: Speculate 2, Lady Wayward 3. Also startel: Brighton, Blythemaid, Beau Seaton, Leo Enfield, Black Diamond, Bagpipes, Somaroff, Ability, Perdita, Grand Poplar. Time, 1 mm. 34 sees. Dividends, £17 3s. 6d. and £9 ias. 6d. . Oaks Stakes, one mile and a half.— Isolt 1, Vardo 2, Tsitsihar 3. Also stai-ted: Czarevna, Marguerite, Petticoat. Petticoat m,ade early ■ running, with Isolt second. Rounding the top turn, Petticoat was beaten, and Tsolt won with the greatest ease •by five lengths. Vardo was three lengths in front of Tsitsihar. Time, 2 mins. 48 sees. .' Dividend, £1 ss. 6d. Ashley Handicap, six furlongs.— Medallist 1, Beresina 2, Zetland 3. Also .started: To-morrow, Largesse. Ingleneuk, Canticle, Lady Lyonors. Won by half a length. Pas Seul was fourth. Time, 1 mm. 17 3-5 sees. Dividends, £9 2s. 6d. and £5 Is. ' Electric Plate, four furlongs.—Cuneiform 1, Machine Gun 2, Glenowlet 3.
Also started: Chivalry, Master Alix, Volodia. Glenowlet, who was quickest to move, was in trouble with two furlongs gone. Cuneiform won by a length. Time, 49 1-5 sees. Dividend, £3 7s.
