Mr. A. Varney left for Wellington yesterday. Mr. Wm. Gray, Chief Inspector, was a passenger for Wellington by yesterday's mail train. Mr. Georege Wilson, late inspecting engineer of the Mines' Department, died in Auckland on Wednesday, after a short illness, aged 68. Mr. T- Waterworth, borough overseer of works at Napier, died on Wednesday of heart disease. The deceased (says a Press Association telegram) had held the position for a number of years, and was also inspector of fire brigades. Ho was an old resident of. Napier. He leaves a widow and grown-up family. Mr. J. G. Woolley's health has broken do»vn, and his engagements for Haw.ko's Bay district have had to be abandoned. Mrs. A. R. Atkinson of Wellington, is taking up part of Mr. Woolley's engagements, and Mr. J. T. Brown, a recent arrival from. America, is also joining in the campaign. • Tho death took place at Stratford yesterday of Sergeant-Major Castle. Tho deceased served with the Sixtyeighth Regiment in India and in New Zealand. After the fight at the Gate Pa he joined the First Waikato Regi-ir-ent, and with that corps saw eighteen irenths' further servico in the field. Later on ho was with the Opotiki Bush Ranger* and tha East Coast CavalryHe was instructor to the' Armed Constaabulary for sixteen years, and for ten years in the volunteer defence force. Mrs. Adams, of Cuba street, Wellington, is a daughter of the deceased. Sergeant-Major Castle was a grandson of one of the crew of Nelson's flagship at the battle of Trafalgar.
