WANGANUI CHRISTMAS CARNIVAL.
A meot-ing of ladies willing to assist in working the floral fete to be run in the interests of the Wanganui Museum and Christmas Carnival was held <at the Museum yesteaxlay afternoon. Dr Hatherly—in the unavoidable absence of the Chairman, Mr Saynor Griffiths—presided. Mrs Empeon sent a letter of 'apology for absence and enclosed a cheque for one guinea. In a brief address Dr Hatherly explained the objects of the fete, and showed where the ladies' assistance was required to make the function a success. After a short discussion it was decided that the following ladies constitute an executive committee with power to add:—> Mrs Stewart, Mrs Rod well, Mrs Hatrick, Mrs Lemiard, Mra and Mies Cooch, M<rs Griffiths, and Mrs Hughes-Jchnsbon. The next meeting was fixed for Wednesday, November 29th. We have been asked to explain that the ladies will not be called oji greatly until the day of the event. Their help will be most valuaible, however, in attending to the tea kiosk, getting entries, judging the exhibits, and generally promoting interest in the affair. The mes'ting of tihe general committee, arranged for to-night, owing to numerous other attractions, and the fact that there is no pressing business, has been adjourned until Wednesday, the 15th inst. In the evening the Floral Fete Committee met at the Museum. Present—• Dr Hatherly (chairman), Messrs White Smith, Hollo<way, Walker, Gower, and the secretary. Apologies'*were received from Messrs iGriffiths and Swan. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Reports were received from various sources, all of a satisfactory nature. The programme- was gone through iv detail, and after consideration it was decided to print it as arranged with certain prcbadble additions, and on the motion of Mr Smith, seconded by Mr Holloway, Mr Saynor Griffiths, Dr Hatherly, and the secretaa-y were appointed a sub-committee to attend to the matter. On the motion of Mr Gower, seconded by Mr White, it was decided that entries would close on Tuesday, December 19fch, at 9 p.m. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to Mrs Empson for her donation, and it was decided to make it a special prize. In connection with the Floral Fete it is not the intention of the committee to canvass for donations, but any generosity in the way of cheques and prizes forwarded by well-wishers of the Museum and Floral Fete will be received with thanks. The date of the next meeting was left with the Chairman to arrange. j
