MR. JAMES ALLEN AT MILTON.
' MILTON, November 6. Mr James Allen, M.H.R., addressed a-large meeting of the electors of Bruce in the Coronation Hall, Milton, tonight, the Mayor (Mr Moore) presiding. Mr Allen said that sixteen years of office was too^ long for any Ministry to remain in power unless it was actuated by the highest motives and re-invigorat-ed by fresh ideals. The Government as at present constituted had pandered to a section of the democracy and plundered the many, and all true democratic feelings had departed from them. It had no policy on any great question of the day. The speaker quoted in detail colonial stock prices for same yeans past, showing that since 1903 prices of New Zealand stocks had declined, whereas others had a*isen. He did not deny that it. was a grand country, and he was sure the Colony ought to (be afole to borrow at a cheaper orate than any other colony, but it could not. It was lor the electors to judge the reason why. ' Let them change the effete Government and they would also change the ■'downward tendency of the Colony's credit. Mr Allen also dea.lt with the Liberal, democratic, and constructive policj- put forward by the Opposition at the coming election. At the conclusion of his speech Mr Allen received a unanimous Vote of confidence and thanks.
