Just a Word With YOU. Did it occur to you that the miserable drunkard you passed in the street the other day was once a young man, like yourself ? He was, though, and perhaps a smart fellow, too. He never meant to become a drunkard, but—well, there isn't much of the " hail-fellow-well-met " about him now, is there ? Poor beggar, he's done. The gutter, the gaol, the drunkard's grave. That's the end. And there are scores, hundreds, aye, ] thousands, just like him—all through the drink. And they all declared in their young I days that THEY would never be drunkards. It would have been an insult to have suggested such to them then. But now— t look! What, about yourself, lad ? You have all the chances—youth, pluck, opportunity—what are you going to do wifch them ? These are busy times. A man wants all his wits about him. It is SOBER men who keep the best billets these days. It is the SOBER MEN who get on and prosper. What about yourself ? Just think a minute. Think where the drunkards are made. Run your eye, so to speak, over the town and district. You see all the shops and offices and factories, you see all the farms and homesteads round about. No drunkards being made in these places, are there ? Not quite. Now look at the Licensed Liquor Bar. You haven't got to think hard or look far, have you. You would call that man an idiot who told you the Licensed Liquor Bars existed for the purpose of making men sober, cli ? You know where most of the drunkards are manufactured. You know it takes twenty shillings to make a pound. You know how long you have to work to make twenty shillings. When you ppend your pound you like to get your moneys worth. Did you ever hear of anyone getting his moneys worth out of a licensed liquor bar ? You're smart enough to appreciate a good bargain when you see it. It is estimated that Wanganui spends Fifty Thousand Pounds a Year on liquor. Some folks say that Seventy Thousand Pounds would, be : nearer the mark. We get in return a crop of local drunkards, some of whom, perhaps, you know. ' Who gets the best of the deal ? Don't you think you might be a good deal better off yourself if the enormous sum of money spent locally on drink were to find its way into ordinary business channels ? You're a steady young fellow yourself, but perhaps you know someone who is being tempted to ruin by the licensed bars. . Then " line up " with us, make up your mine to STRIKE OUT THE TOP LINE, and vote " NO - LICENSE " for the sake of the other fellow. If you vote with the right crowd License " will be carried in Wanganui, and " No-License " means BETTER BUSINESS, BRIGHTER HOMES, and BIGGER SAVINGS ! By the way, the Wanganui Youn Men's No-License Club means a solid vote of hundreds of young men for " No-License," and there are scores of young men who don't belong to the Club who are going to vote the same-way. You won't be lonely. You are lucky. You can do the right thing for your country and for yourself, and be in with the majority at the same time. REMEMBER ! The only visible and lasting product of the Licensed Liquor Bar is the DRUNKARD. Help us to get FIFTY THOUSAND POUNDS a year spent on something better > than that in Wanganui. Doi.'t be bluffed by the Liquor Touts --Vote straight for "No-Lcense" aad keep yoi r own counsel.
