Entries for the Takapuna J.C.s Spring Meeting close to-morrow. Entries for the Waitara Meeting close on Saturday. Noctuiform has been sold to go to England. ' Machine Gun is said to be below his best form.
Veneer is showing splendid track form at Riccarton, and should run prominently at the meeting. Sungod is a doubtful and Noctuiform a certain starter for the N.Z. Cup.
At latest advices Maniapoto was a firm favourite for the Melbourne Cup. Mr. G. G. Stead's cast-off crack sprinter Strowan sired four winners of six events at the recent Poverty Bay meeting, in Melton Hall, Gatenby, Ladylike, and Probieda. Mafiutonga has been showing poor track • form at Riccarto.n, and is not given a chance in theTJiip. There ,js every indication that—Noctuiform having been sold to go HomeMr. Stead intends to go all out to win th-a New Zealand Cup; with him. Hewitt is wasting to ride him and whatever beats him should win.
Kirriemuir is a popular selection to beat Mr. Stead's pair in the C.J.C. Welcome Stakes.
Providing she gets a good passage, Munjeet should win the C.J.C. Stewards' Stakes, though there are some below her in the handicap that will probably stretch her neck. As a prophesied in my notes last week. Capulet Avon at tho Master ton meeting, and returned a dividend of i'l2 3s. to her supporters. The local horse Kuroki found the combination of heavy weight and heavy going -too much for him. He should however, score at Taiatahi in he makes the trip. L. Hewitt will ride Noctuiform in the N.Z. Cup, and Munjeet in the Stewards' Handicap.. "Wager."—Nestor is a Studbook borse. He was bred in 1893. By St. Leger—Tamora, he belongs to No. 2 family, and is a beautifully bred horse, hia pedigree being a good illustration 1 of the Doncaster—Musket cross, and containing no less than five strains of Touchstone (14) blood, while No. 8 is also strongly in evidence in his pedigree.
