WANGANUI ROWING CLUB
The semi-finals of the above club'a Trial Fours were rowed last evening, and resulted in two very fine races. Crews stroked by G. Dodgshun and McDonald first faced the starter. At the word "row," the former crew were quicker away, and secured a lead of a quarter of a length, which they maintained until the stone groin was reach-' er. Hero McDonald made a strong effort to pull up lost ground, and came up almost level. However, Dodgshun, wlio was rowing a fine race, called on his men, and managed to stave off all McDonald's efforts; passing the post barely three-quarters of a length to the good. Day .and Banks then measured blades. It was generally thought that the former- would win easily. Such was not tho case. Both crews got away, well together, and rowed practically level until tho groin. Day then asserted himself, and gradually drew ahead, winning a good race.by a bare length. I must congratulate all crews on the form displayed in both the above heats. Each crew rowed really well, in spite of having had such a short time for training operations. Th-a final test will be rowed to-night between Day and G. Dodgshun, starting at 5.30. All those interested in rowing, and who love to watch a good struggle, should make a point of being present. On last night's form, I anticipate that Dodgshun will just about get the verdicf, though 1 am sure Day Avill dispute every inch of the way. Entries close on Saturday next, at 4 p.m., for Trial Pairs, open to all those not selected in regatta crews. I un derstand that it is intended to coach each crew thoroughly, so that all last year's and this year's members should make a point of entering, and benefiting thereby.
