WELLINGTON, October 31. The Department of Industries and Commerce has received the following cable from the High Commissioner, dated London, October 28 :—The mutton -market is quiet and dull of sale for all •qualities, supplies being plentiful. The average price to-day for Canterbury mutton" is 3 7-8 d per lb. s and North Island 3|d; ligET weights 3 3-Bd, and "21d tf respectively, for heavy weights; Australia 3d, and River Plate 3 l-Bd. The lamb market is depressed. The weather having been very unfavourable 'for sales," stock has been accumulating, and the market looks very weak, there being a number of sellers at 4 3-8 d for light weights and 4d for heavyweights. The beef market is quiet, the stocks on iand being light. Supplies of River .Plato are, however, heavy. The average price fa-day for hindquarters of New Zealand beef was 3 3-Bd, forequarters 2 5-Bd. There is a good dexnand for butter, and the market is -very firm, the cold weather and Russian disturbances haying affected the .market Australian is. quoted at 112s, Danish 121s, Siberian 1065.. The cheese .market is quiet, but steady. Canadian is quoted at 575. The hemp market is firm, with a "Letter demand. The price of New .Zealand hemp of good fair Wellington grade, on spot to-day, was £31. Octo-ber-December shipments £31 10s., Manila October-December shipments £41 10s. There is a "Setter demand for cocksfoot seed. The average price for tright, clean New Zealand cocksfoot ■see! -weighing 17 lbs. per bushel, on .spot, was 51s p*er cwt.
