"When will the Women Awake?" There are seven or eight thousand voters in Wanganui, of whom half are women. Now, during the last twelve years there has been a band of men engaged in the work of trying to rid Wanganui of its greatest curse, " The Drink Traffic." Their Reasons? Firstly: The protection of women and children, and Secondly, the betterment of the community generally. What has been the result? Twelve I years of work and struggle, odium and contempt endured, boycotting in business and social circles,^ and the persons most to be benefited have either stood by with folded hands, secure in the possession of sober husbands, or have actively opposed what was being done to help their less fortunate sisters. Think of it ! ONEr.HALF the voters of this town are women and the "DRINK TRAFFIC" STILL EXISTS! the same unselfish band is still battling. WHEN WILL THE WOMEN AWAKE who has anxiety over children poorly fed ? The drunkard's wife. WHEN WILL THE WOMEN AWAIffE? Who is poorly dressed? Not the publican's but the drunkard's wife. WHEN WILL THE WOMEN AWA KE ? Who is kept down, always scrimping to live and keep up appearances ? The moderate drinker's wife. . . „ When will the Women Awake. Who has pledged her vote to the publican's wife in return for a little flattery and condescension I Many a woman. WHEN WILL THE WOMEN AWAKE ? The publican says that if "No License" is carried he will be ruined. That would be a -pity, better let him continue the process j of ruining your husband, or son. WHEN WILL THE WOMEN AWAKE? You worry over your son being out at night. Don't worry. The " Trade" will take care of him (while he can spend). When will the Women Awake. Who is it has to receive the butcher, the baker, and grocer, and explain why it is that the account can't be paid this month ? The drunkard's wife ; a sober man faces the creditors himself. Drink makes cowards of good men. WHEN WILL THE WOMEN AWAKE? Who has fine holidays ? Not the drunkard's wife. When will the Women Awake. Who can afford motor cars and fine horses ? Not the drunkard's wife. WHEN WILL THE WOMEN AWAKE? Women of Wanganui This matter is in your hands. You, if you wished and combined, could settle it in one day. it is your vote that does it. You are responsible. Yoursons, husbands, and brothers are voting '• No-License,"—many of them in self-defence. Why is it you prefer to suffer yourselves and see your children suffer, rather than kill the thing that hurts you ? THINK IT OVER! Don't worry about the publican. Your vote will not close his house. It will only shut the bar. The house will still bring the publican in a good living, if he cares to work for it that way. STRIKE OUT THE TOP LINE! Look-out for To-Morrow!
