LAND BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING
The Land Board- met on Thursday, the Commissioner (Mr. J. Strauchon) presiding. Also present: Messrs. J. Stevens, A. Reese, J. Dawson, and J. Robinson.
The following transfers were approved on the usual conditions:—Sections 8 to 9, block 9, Hautapu, W. A. Officer to W. Irvine; sections 7, 8, and 9, block 1, Tiriraukawa, D. Tod to R. J. Tod; section 32, Rakauteru Village Settlement, A. J. L. Hughes (deceased) to J. McKay. H. H. Benck applied to transfer section 49, block 10, Pukeokahu, to William Old.
Decided to refused transfer to Mr Old, not being an eligible transferee. lA'n application from H. O'Donnell, to transfer section 18, block 8, Tiriraukawa, to P. Munro, was declined. C. Swaysland's application to sub-let section 112, block 18, Belmont, for 12 months, at a rental of 7s per week, was approved, subject to Minister's consent, and provided an eligible tenant is obtained. "
Sub-leases approved subject to usual conditions:—Mrs. Isabella Munro, sections 1 and 2 ; block 15, Hautapu, to Thps. W. Muny for 5£ years, at an annual rental of, £149 9s.
E. Bamett wrote stating that his section (No. 4, block 6, Kaitieke) is classified as "scrub" land and exempt from rent and rates for two years. Ho asked that the period be extended to four years.—Granted.
It was resolved to re-offer section 1, block 11, Kaitawa, at the original price of 255. per acre, weighted with improvements, reduced from £381 12s to £240 4s. '
The application from R. S. James to lease 45 acres cf section 5, block 9, Mautapu, was referred to the Scenery Commissioners to deal with.
Th<3 Under-Secretary, Public Works Department, applied for permission for fcho contractors for the erection of tlfe Makototo viaduct to cut about 1000 tons of firewood near the site of the works for fuel for the engines, etc.— Resolved to approve the request for 1000 cords of dead and fallen timber; royalty to be charged under class 7 of schedule (timber regulations); no timber suitable for sawmilling purposes to bo cut for firewcied>;-the operations to be under the supervision and inspection of an officer of the Board. It was resolved to approve of a year to year lease of section 10, blocvk 10, Hautapu, to D. Doak, subject to the Government's and local authorities' right to free access at any time for the purpose of getting and removing gravel without payment or compensation of any sort for damage done. Decided to allot section 14, block 8, Tiriraukawa, to R. Scandlyn. This has been hitherto withheld for forest purposes. A. Milner applied for an extension of his temporary lease of section 31, Mangaweka Village Settlement.—Decided to inform applicant that the land is shortly to be offered for public competition, when he could apply for it with others.
