FEILDING, October 28. At the Police Court, Joseph Thompson, alias Hanley, alias Cooper, and W. Oarix>ll. were, charged with stealing fowls pf the value of 17s 6d, and received one month each. A further charge was preferred against them of breaking and entering Domigan's- drapery establishment "during Thursday night, and stealing articles of clothing valued at over £15. The police traced footprints left on the wet soil, and discovered the property hidden in the bush half a mile away. They afterwards tracked the men to their camp a mile distant, and arrested Thompson. They found the tickets off the stolen goods in the camp. They arrested Can-oil in the town, and found some studs in his pocket. A further charge of (breaking and entering the dwelling of C Weigh tman, with intent to commit a crime, was remanded till Tuesday next. Joseph James Garrifcy, charged with fraudulently obtaining £4 5s on a betting transaction at Alfredton, was remanded to Wellington on Friday next, 'bail being allowed in his own recognisances of £50 and a suonety of £50. CHBISTOHURCH, October 28. At the Magistrate's Court, this morning, James Bridgland was sentenced to three months' imprisonment for assaulting Sub-Inspector Dwyer. Accused met Dwyer in Colombo .Street., last night, and, after calling him offensive names, struck him in the mouth, cutting both lips and loosening a tooth.
