NEW ZEALANDERS v. DEVONPORT ALBIONS.

COLONIALS WIN BY 21 TO 3

DETAILS OF THE PLAY

A WELL-CONTESTED GAME

United Press Association. —Copyright

Received October 26, 1.40 p.m. LONDON, October 25. Special interest centred in the match New Zealand against Devonport Albions. This club holds a high, if not tlhe highest, place amongst England's crack clubs, and it may be noted that ten of its members played for Devon in the initial match of the tour. English critics pretty unanimously predicted that, whatever the outcome of the earlier engagements, the Maorilanders would be put to the test, if indeed they did not find their Waterloo, when they met the Albions. The result, however, falsified these predictions, for the visitors, after a well-contested game, proved fdie victors 'by 21 points to 3. The weather conditions were perfect, and the attendance wasi a record, over 20,000 spectators witnessing the match. The New ZeaJanders were handicapped to some extent by the absence of Wallace, who was not included in to-day's team.

The visitors attacked from the kickoff, and at an early stage Thomson (Wanganui) crossed the line and secured a try, which Gillett coyerted. This .was the only score made in the first half, the Albion forwards, showing brilliant farm, keeping the New Zealanders fully extended for the rest of the spell, which ended—New Zealand 5, Albion 0. The visitors appeared to more advantage in the second half, and kept the home team on the defensive, pressing them for the greater paint of the time. Tries were secured by Thomson (Wanganui), Mynobt (Taranaki), Tyler (Auckland), and Gallagher (Auckland). Gillett, in two instances, succeeded in sending the ball over the bar. In the last few minutes Albions invaded New Zealand territory, and pressing their opponents, were awarded a free kick for a broach of the rules, from which they placed a goal. Shortly after "no side" sounded, with the score —New Zealand 21, Albions S.
