RETARDED

P«r Press Association

CHRISTCHURCH, October 26. After tlfaree days very fine weather, rain set in on Tuesday, and has continued intermittently ever since, being now very heavy. The exceptionally wet season has tha-own back farming operations, and tlhe winter sown wheat has rotted in the ground, necessitating resowing over >a large area. The "harvest will consequently be late. The lambing so far has 'been very satisfactory.

BLENHEIM, October 26. Heavy and continuous rain resulted in a surfeit of water in the rivers today. An overflow occurred at various localities, but no great damage (has been done. A washout on the railway line prevented the running of trains between Blenheim and Seddon to-day, but it is expected traffic will be resumed t morrow.

A waggon crossing the Wairau ford Wiith a load of flax wias washed down stream. The driver had a miraculous escape, and the waggon, team, and flax were recovered with great difficulty. A mail cart crossing the Wairau River at the top of the valley ford was washed down, two occupants having a narrow escape. The cart was wrecked and all the contents lost.

The continuous yet weather has greatly hampered farmers' operations, and will affect tihe output of tihe season to a considerable extent. In some localities the roots of the crops are rotted, •and in other parts the farmers have not been able to ge the seed into the ground. Pastoralists, however, are having a excellent season.
