WANGANUI CHRISTMAS CARNIVAL.

The usual weekly mooting of the Committee was held at the Council Chambers last evening. Colonel Watt, in the absence of the Mayor, who is at Timaru, presided. Several apologies for unavoidable absence were received.

FlNANCE—Further donations were received as follows:—Castlecliff Railway Company £2 25., Mr. Benoni White £1, Harrup and Anderson 10s. 6d.. George and Kersley £5 ss. Those who have promised donations will oblige by forwarding them to the secretary or treasurer, as money is now required. FLORAL FETE.—The report of the proposed floral fete was read, and it was decided to suggest a decorated kite flying competition for children, also to miake two classes for tradesmen's vehicles, and a few races for the children.

ADVERTISING.—Mr. Hogan reported thaifc Mr. Mulrooney, of the Masonic Hotel, Palmerston North, was agreeable to allow a calico sign to be shown from his balcony. Mr. Mathison, of the Westport Coal Company, also offered to show one at their reoently acquired premises.—Resolved, that the secretary write and thank both gentlemen for their kindness. BAND CONTEST.—The report of tho band contest was submitted, which wo have previously published, was read and adopted. It is on the same scale as ilast year.

SHOOTING.—Captain Swan reported that in most cases the replies received in 'answer to circulars were favourable, and they would be in a position to report definitely about the 27th instant. DEPUTATION.—The Mayor, Mr. Swan, and the secretary were appointed a sub-committee to wait on the Railway Traffic Manager and request certain concessions and arrangements.

Mi*. Palmer here took the chair, as Colonel Watt had to leave.

SWIMMING—Mr. M. Hogan, who was deputed to wait on the committee and ask for a donation in aid of sports on Friday afternoon, (to be held in tho iiver, and at the baths on Saturday afternoon. The delay in replying to the Carnival secretary's letter on the subject, written some months back, was explained. The matter was referred for decision to the next meeting.

Tho meeting adjourned, with the usual compliment to the chair, until Wednesday, the Ist November.
