Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, October 25. Mr R. J. Collins, Assistant Secretary to the Treasury, said he had searched a/11 the votes out of which it was possible Captain Seddon could have been paid for the reorganisation of the Defence Stores, or for any other purpose, and had found no trace of such payment. It was absolutely impossible that such a cheque could have been paid without a record appearing in the Department's' books. The witness was cross-examined by Mr Jellicoe at great length about the minutiae of departmental procedure, and Mr Jellieoe was repeatedly balled to called to order by the "Bench. Their Honours considered that he was deliberately the time of the Court and endeavouring to cloud the issue. At (last, after a heated controversy, Mr Jellicce said he desired to say that he would take no further part in the proceeding's, as no good purpose could be served by doing so. Mr Justice Edwards said : " It remains to be seen whether Mr Fisher is responsible for the gross and improper waste of time this Court has been subjected to."

The Commission then adjourned until next morning.
