OHRISTCHURCH, October 25. A meeting of the Executive of the Consumption Sanatorium was held this afternoon, when the Chairman stated thiat the question of site had not yet been settled. The treasurer reported that £205 'had been received in cash so far, and £800 promised. At meeting of the North Canterbury Executive of the Farmers' Union to-day the Stock and Produce Committee reported that the Ghristchurch wool Brokers' Association 'had offered to adopt the Melbourne rates relating to tlhe sale of wool in place of the existing rates. It was resolved not to accept the offer. Mr. Bywater, the New Zealand representative of the International Harvester Company, wrote, by invitation, putting his side of the Trust question before the delegates. He assured the delegates that they had no cause to be afraid that farmers would be asked to pay more for his implements than foe was paying at present. The Company's idea was to reduce the selling price by selling direct to the buyer, instead of through the local manufacturers. It was resolved to request the various branches to discuss the question of protective duty on imported farming machinery and forward thedr views in time for the summer conference of the Union.
Mr John Knight, lessee of the land over which the New Brighten tram line is to go, was fined Is and costs at the Magistrate's Court this motrning for wilfully obstructing the Tramway Board's employees. Knight had been previously notified that the land would be taken under the Public Works Act.
