Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, October 24. The Department of Industries and Commerce has received- the following, cablegram from the High Commissioner dated London, 23rd instant :— Mutton.—The market remains very depressed at the prices . quoted last week. River Plate mutton is Is Bd. lower.
Lamb.—The market has collapsedThe stocks on hand are heavy, but arewidely distributed among the agents,, who are pushing the sales. The average prico to-uiay for New Zealand lamb, Canterbury brand, is 4 l-8d per lb. For brands other than Canterbury 4d petf
lb. Beef.—The market is quiet, and small business is doing. .The averageprice to-day for hindquarters of New Zealand beef is 3 3-8 d per lb., fores--2 5-8 d per lb. Butter.—Tli-a market is quiet, and rather unsettled. Danish butter basceclined to 120s per cwt., whilst othersremain steady. Cheese.—The market is quiet, with a pendency in favour oi buyers. Canadian, 57s* per cwt. '_ , j. Hemp.—The market is steady. Ihe price of New Zealand hemp, "good fair Wellington" grade, on spot to-day, per ion, is £30 10s. October and March* shipments ditto. . Cocksfoot Seed.—There has been noalteration in the cocksfoot seed market; since last week.
