AUCKLAND, OcKoW 24. Albert Gabriel, restaurant keeper, pleaded not- guilty in tlfoe- Police Court to a charge of firing ia pistol without reasonable cause in Albert Street. Evidence given by Constable Mulloly showed that Gabriel admitted to 'him that he fired a pistol. The defendant's explanation at the ■ time was that four or five men "rushed" him iamd h& fired to frighten them as the was afraid they were going to crob him of £130 worth of money and jewellery which he was carrying. Gabriel gave evidence, repeating the statement made to the constable. " You did a very reasonable and proper thing," declared his Worship, who dismissed the information.
