NGAMATAPOURI NOTES.
(By "-Fern Leaf.") A meeting of ratepayers to discuss telephone and Council matters was iielcf in the Library, and it was decided to ask the Government to erect the line at the price they asked, the cost to be defrayed by striking a rate over tho Kapara riling. Council matters were then discussed. Mr. Braithwaite went to prove that £364 was wasted, for which not one farthing was received in return. The Councillor replied, 1 admit it, gentlemen." Tho Valley road is very heavy tor -wheel traffic between the Omata road and Mr. Cullinane's, the grader baing at work there. . Several settlers surrendered thensections, and were living rent and rate fr*e. Their rent has been lowered, and one has'taken up his section again. The remaining three Government leasehold sedtions have been taken up. I hear that two or threa contracts in the Makakaho-Pipiriki road have been started and thrown up, the contractors having returned to Wanganui.
