A BAD CASE.

AUCKLAND, October 23. A Queen street restaurant-cur named Peter Fmnchi was charged at the Police Court this morning with working three assistants more than 52 hours weekly and failing to allow them a wr-ekly half-holiday. The assistants deposed that they worked seven days a week. The shopman said his hours in ono week totalled 116£. Two waitresses said they worked 96 hours, their wages being 12s. and* Bs. respectively. Mr. Djer, the Stipendiary Magistrate, characterised the case aa "white slavery," and fined Franchi 305.-on each of seven informations with costs, the total being nearly £30.
